How to make a knife sheath:

Lesson 1) how to make a wooden knife sheath
Start with a ¼ piece of plywood or thicker if you wish. You will mark out the shape of the blade on the plywood so you know the shape and size of your sheath. Once you trace your knife you will cut out your sheath pattern.

1. Cut out a pair of wooden sides the size of your border.
2. Glue the border piece to one of the sides and place your knife blade in it.
3. Glue the second piece onto the other, ensuring that your blade’s thickness works in the border piece (if there is not enough room, split some of the wood and make a spacer to allow your knife blade to fit)
4. After the glue has set, finish off first the sides then the edges of your wooden knife sheath.
5. For extra strength bind the top with a metal band because this area is the main stress point. This durable sheath will protect your knife and last a long time. Then varnish it to protect the wood from water and seal the grain.

When you are making your knife sheath remember that you will have to shave some of the wood inside to allow the blade to slide in and out properly. Now you have a great way to make a knife sheath and remember the better the wood the better your sheath looks!
